Breakdown Of The Cost Of a Water Restoration

The average cost of a water damage restoration is hard to determine since there are several large factors that determine the cost of water restoration. The price of water restoration usually falls somewhere between $2500 and $8000.

There are 3 categories of water damage to take into account when quoting a restoration.

  • Clean water damage - This kind of water damage comes from a burst water pipe or a leaky faucet. The most important part of water restoration with clean water damage is to get rid of the water completely including drying out places it may have seeped into such as walls, floors, cabinets, etc. as quickly as possible so it does breed mold. This is also the cheapest type of water restoration since it only includes drying out the flooded area. Clean water damage restoration generally costs about $3.75 per square foot of damaged area.
  • Gray water damage - This kind of water damage comes from dishwashers, washing machines, and other used water sources but not contaminated sources. This type of water damage can range from just drying out the flooded and damaged area to mitigation and restoration. Depending on the extent of the water damage and how long it had to contaminate the flooded areas will determine just how much water restoration is needed. Gray water damage restoration generally costs about $4.50 per square foot of damaged area.
  • Black water damage - This kind of water damage is the worst type of water damage. It comes from contaminated and potentially toxic sources such as sewer water, fire extinguisher chemicals, water from fire hoses, natural sources such as hurricanes and tornadoes. Anything that came in contact with black water damage has potentially been contaminated and must be either thoroughly cleaned or thrown out. This includes drywall, furniture, carpets, cabinetry, floors, and more. At times the damage is so severe that a majority of the home is damaged and must be replaced. Black water damage restoration generally costs about $7 per square foot of damaged area.
